Ignored by the MSM & the Democratic Party

I was over at India Palace tonight with Lindy Scott and his supporters. As we watched the results come in, we were not even allowed to see Lindy's results. WGN, like so many of the media outlets tonight, are only showing Duckworth and Cegelis's voting results. Even though, as of now, Lindy is drawing 18-22% of the vote, he's not getting his name and number even on the ticker. Fox News is the only one who's consistently shown them, but their announcer team just failed to mention Lindy as they discussed the race in the 6th district.

Also not surprisingly, Fox is now interviewing the "man who recruited Duckworth to run in this race": Dick Durbin. Say no more. They're talking about how the national party pour money, endorsements and resources behind her. And they're the ones, I think, who spun the race as only a two-person one.

I'm not so cynical to think that it only--or primarily--had to do with Lindy's Christian faith. Duckworth is an Asian-American woman and Iraq war veteran, who lost both legs in the conflict. Clearly, hers is a story with real appeal. But I think it says a lot about the Democratic party that they ship in someone from outside the district and discourage a local candidate with cross-over appeal like Lindy. They would rather put someone like Duckworth in there who has national appeal. As Walter Jacobson is now intoning, "Duckworth's a national superstar already." Again, say no more.

And of course, there is also the media to blame, I think. The sad reality I observed every time I read a story about Lindy was this: he was presented in completely patronizing tones as the novelty candidate, the Evangelical Spanish professor from Wheaton College who would be the giant slayer for Jesus. Great. Very little serious interest or genuine curiosity about what he stands for--and why.

As the old saying goes, being ignored is the worst form of insult, worse than hatred. Even though not all the results are in, I'm very sad for Lindy right now for he is being ignored. He is a very fine man and deserves better than this.
